TR Guest writes fiction, screenplays and plays.
His first-performed work was at age eleven when he staged an ill-advised, incredibly pretentious music and dance piece starring all the local kids set to the music of the The Velvet Underground and Nico’s eponymous album. Parents were not impressed.
He mainly writes comedy, but has also written horror and thriller features. He loves stories about outsiders, and is notorious for remembering lurid details from friends’ lives and using them in his work.
He’s had several short stories published, including horror and (more implausibly) women’s erotic fiction.
His thriller feature Nobody was a Shore Scripts semi-finalist.
He wrote the libretto for Let The Music In – an opera by Pegasus Opera which was performed in London in 2016. He also won the Theatre Futures award which saw his plays Mother’s Ruin and Miss Hecate performed at the Soho Theatre.
He has worked as a journalist and copywriter for publications, websites and brands including Vogue, Press Association, MTV, Channel 4, Capital FM, Sky, FilmFour and SyFy as well as several big businesses. He prides himself on being able to produce engaging copy on everything from music and showbiz to antique fireplaces and, um, corporate gas buying. He’s also written numerous scripts, monologues and speeches for corporate leaders, TV presenters, actors and comedians including Armstrong & Miller.
During his time in entertainment he helped Marilyn Manson with his make-up, inadvertently got the Beastie Boys lost backstage, incurred the wrath of The Darkness’s Justin Hawkins, was the only person watching as Madonna rehearsed for a show, and held his breath as J-Lo got stuck in a tiny model plane fifty feet in the air. He also once helped Pamela Anderson change her outfit backstage at an awards ceremony (an experience completely lost on him). For Christmas he’d like a dustpan and brush for all the names he’s carelessly dropped.
He’s currently working on several projects for film and TV and is finishing work on a comic novel based on his time in the entertainment industry.
He’s a long-standing member of the London Writers’ Circle and helps organise its regular workshops as well as co-hosting the monthly London Writers’ Meetup with animation writer and writing coach Katy Segrove.
