Hanway Films attached to sell worldwide – Louis; about the first underwater photographer at the turn of the century, and the discovery of the coral reef now fast disappearing. Underwater veteran Mike Valentine co-writer and director.
Dog Eat Dog – Snowbirds; a senior citizen love story and coming-of-age story set on an RV park in Sicily, where a private widow from Kent and a vain old divorcee from Manhattan embark on a surprising adventure together. Director Deva Palmier attached.
Sophie re-writes, as well as having her own stories commissioned, for: Recorded Pictures, Hungry Eye (Woman From The North – 1999), Hal Films, Hadley Films, (Luminal – 2003), Ipso Facto Films (Carry Daivid – since changed companies), Cloud Media, Ragged Crow (Love Hooligan – 2014), Lionsgate, Calache Films (Skin Walker – 2019), Mercury Films, Carnaby, and regularly for Dog Eat Dog as well as sometimes being producer there.
Early commissions as a writer performer: monologue for BBC Radio 4, Inner Voices, Bogman (2002); then sitcom California Sands for Carlton (2003.)
Short films include: Love Hooligan, Dead Funny, Entrance No Exit (awards include Best Comedy NRFF, Best Comedy LAIFFA, Best Drama NYC Indie awards and LA shorts).
She formed an all-female theatre company, Birds Of Britain, with novelist Laline Paull, (The Bees), writing and performing for Latitude and Edinburgh Festivals (200–8) and wrote and performed poetry for a group called the Paradigm Poets (2002–3).
Sophie trained at Drama Centre London, graduating in 1991, and has worked as an actress in film (The Hour Of The Pig – Lesley Megaghy, Second Best – Chris Menges, Military Wives – Peter Cattaneo) and television regulars including Soldier Soldier and plays at The Riverside, The Pleasance and The Royal Court, as well as Shakespeare.
She lives in Oxfordshire with her two daughters, her dog, and her chickens.
