Paula is a New York Times bestselling author of seventeen novels, now turning her attention to screenwriting. In 2024 she sold the rights to her book The Little Shop of Found Things, and was commissioned to adapt the novels for the screen. She completed the scripts for season one, and the TV series is now in pre-production.
She is also adapting her comic-crime-fantasy series, Detective Gretel, with the pilot now scripted.
During lockdown Paula wrote, filmed, directed, and edited her first short, The River. It was filmed entirely on an iPhone for a budget of £1,000 and garnered laurels on the festival circuit. She recalls the making of this short film as being hugely enjoyable and one of the most creative experiences of her life.
Paula has an MA in Creative Writing from Lancaster University, and was shortlisted for the Mind Book Award for her novel, Nutters. She has written a feature screenplay for this story, which is a mental health comedy.
She lives in Hereford with her partner and their two demanding but hilarious whippets. She is currently completing book three in her Hecate Cavendish series, and has two original features scripted as well as an ambitious television series in development.
