Luke Bailey was the first of his family to be accepted into university, where he gained a First Class BA Hons in Creative Writing and English Literature from Manchester University. A versatile creative, Luke writes, acts and directs, and to unwind he fronts the indie band you’ve never heard of called Small Black Arrows… despite their debut album being described as a ‘masterpiece’ in a text from his dad. As an actor Luke is known for his enigmatic performances in series including Noughts & Crosses; Ordinary Lies and Waterloo Road. His scripts have seen him win ITV Original Voices, RevolutionMix and BBC Skylights Awards.
Although drawn to state of the nation type narratives, Luke is developing an eclectic slate of projects with an inclination to amplify marginalised voices. These include an expansive series seen through the lens of one of classic literature’s great antiheroes, exploring identity and ambition in eighteenth-century Britain and America; a gritty sports movie following a South London ice-hockey team and true drama highlighting the tribulations of U.S. troops stationed in Lancashire during WWII – both in collaboration with director Ben Mole; a supernatural detective series set in Victorian London, and a coming of age family drama about dog dancing because…well…dog dancing.
