James is a screenwriter living in New Orleans, Louisiana. Born and raised in Los Angeles, James began writing while attending grad school in New Orleans when he started freelancing for local newspapers and magazines. Eventually he was hired by the city’s daily newspaper, The Times-Picayune.
Curious about virtually everything, James found his real passion in freelance travel writing. Assignments over the past three decades have sent him around the world to lend his occasionally insightful, sometimes humorous writing style to everything from tango dancers in Finland to the emerging new voices of modern Uzbekistan. He often leans on his travel experiences to lend international flavor to his screenplays.
James has authored or co-authored four guidebooks and wrote the thirteen-episode series Quest for Adventure for The Travel Channel, where he scripted travelogs on lesser-touristed world destinations for the series’ Emmy- and Peabody award-winning host/narrator John Heminway.
During lockdown James was encouraged to pursue his concept for a TV pilot and series that follows a long-estranged (and ideologically opposite) father and daughter living in Copenhagen as they attempt a thorny relationship reboot. The Great Danes (since retitled Wilde) has won Best TV Script Award for best television pilot at the Los Angeles Film Awards and London Independent Film Awards.
James just completed his third screenplay, which tells the story of a young big city photojournalist who sees her conflicted world turned upside down when she is sent to interview a reclusive artist with a troubled past living in a small village in Vermont.
