Biography

Ella Gonzales is a neurodivergent comedy writer and actor. Her first venture into writing was a mockumentary comedy short, Kirsty, about a woman who’s telepathic with her dog, but is dismayed to discover the dog has some strong political opinions. It was selected and screened at several short film festivals and is available to stream on the Worldwide Cineastes Film Collection short film database.

Ella further sharpened her skills writing and performing in a one-woman sketch comedy. Her sketch, Car Schmars, was shortlisted for a Funny Women Shorts Award and won The British Comedy Guide Pro Video Competition.

In 2020, Ella placed in the top 3% of submissions for the BBC Comedy Caroline Ahern Award with her sketches and a very early treatment for Start Me Up.

Start Me Up, a thirty-minute sitcom pilot, is a satire of the women’s wellness industry. It was developed with script editor Karol Griffiths, who has worked with the likes of the Coen Brothers and Seth McFarlane. In 2022 Start Me Up was a quarter-finalist for the ScreenCraft Television Comedy Competition, placing her in the top 19% of 2,300 entries.

Ella’s latest pilot script, Conflict Resolution, is a comedy-drama. It follows a mother and daughter who, after accidentally killing their relationship therapist, are forced to address old wounds as they embark on a road trip to dispose of the body. Conflict Resolution is currently in the pitching process.

A keen fan of comedy, Ella also performs regularly on the London stand-up comedy circuit, which helps her distil down the essence of a joke into its most efficient form. As a stand-up comedian Ella has been long-listed for a Funny Women Stage Award and has most recently won the British Comedy Guides Starter Comedian Award.

Ella particularly enjoys writing bold and unapologetic women and is presently developing a number of new projects for television, stage and film.
