Johanna Reeve-Alexander is a diverse English/Australian screenwriter, actor and stage improviser living in Italy with over twenty years’ experience. She has appeared in numerous films in Australia and been directed by Rowan Woods (BBC) and Oscar-winning director Bruce Beresford.
She has a wide education in film and acting from The Film and Television Institute in Fremantle, West Australia and other film schools in West Australia. In 2003 she joined a production company, Austra La-Star, as an in-house scriptwriter.
She is credited for writing Rose’s Portrait, a psychological quirky film about the seven sins; a dark, psychological short ‘The Agency’ which Johanna wrote, directed and produced which starred Cody Fern (The Assassination of Gianni Versace) and received excellent feedback on the short film circuit. Gentle Persuasion, a short, was a runner-up in New York Tropfest. She has written and had produced Amulet, a fantasy short and co-written Fish Eye Stiller, a dark comedy feature.
In development now is a comedy drama TV series set in the UK and Italy. It is loosely based on her experiences as a foreigner living in an Italian mountain village. Co-written with Jacqui Waugh, this project is ready for pitching, and in November Johanna directed and produced a teaser for the series with producer Arlen Harris (BBC).
Other projects in development include Birthright, a fantasy feature that crosses time from Shakespearian England to present day. Read by Bruce Beresford, who has given her a recommend for the script, it could be described as Shakespeare in Love meets The Da Vinci Code. She is also working on a dark psychological feature, Under the Delphiniums, which is a female-driven drama about pathological narcissism.
