Biography

Amy Gaffney hails from Kildare, Ireland and is a graduate of UCD’s Creative Writing MA. Her poetry is published in Poetry Ireland Review, the Irish Times Hennessy New Irish Writing, in Washing Windows II and Washing Window III. Amy’s short story Mother May I was shortlisted for the Irish Book Awards Short Story of the Year in 2019. Her debut novel The Moonlight Gardening Club was published by Avon Books in April 2023 under the pseudonym Rosie Hannigan, and her second novel, The Sunrise Swimming Society, was published in February 2024.

Her writing is informed by her interest in women’s rights, the environment, and the psychology surrounding relationships and human nature. Amy likes nothing more than getting her teeth into creating a character and all the reasons surrounding why that character is the way they are, or do the things they do…

When she’s not writing, Amy enjoys reading, gardening, good wine, and taking a spin on the back of her husband’s motorbike – where she gets almost all of her first lines for her poems!
